June has been a spectacular month weather-wise after a cool, damp May, and the horses are looking fantastic in their gleaming summer coats with the sun on their backs. It’s these long, warm summer days on the yard or out competing which make up for the long, cold and wet winters caring for the horses at home in North Yorkshire. So, what have we been up to here at Team Chapman Equestrian during June?
June happenings
This month has seen our fabulous young homebred event horse Madame Revolution TCE tackle her first BE 100, and she totally exceeded our expectations! With our superstar event rider Holly Richardson on board, she posted the leading dressage score and went double clear to finish in the top 10. There is so much to look forward to with this girl, and I’m delighted for her joint owners who own her with me that she is living up to the promise.
It’s been a quieter month with the dressage horses and competitions, but that means I’ve had more time to focus on some of our sales liveries and youngstock that Holly and I are producing. I also went to Bramham International Horse Trials with my trainer’ hat on and it was so nice to soak up the atmosphere at a big event without any nerves or anticipation about competing! This local event is a real favourite of mine and I recommend anyone within travelling distance makes a note to attend next year.
We’ve held our coffee and cake club twice this month, and the latter was held on a very warm Thursday indeed. Thank goodness for the shady and cool indoor school, and it was more iced lemonade and cake club than coffee and cake. Perhaps we need to investigate a stock of Magnums, Calippos and Soleros for future summer dates! We’re also busy preparing for our next camp, which takes place on the 9th and 10th of July. Equine Products UK
I’m very lucky to be sponsored by Equine Products UK and their range of equine supplements and accessories which are used by everyone from professional competition yards like mine and top racehorse trainers to everyday owners and happy hackers. There’s nearly always a box of something on the way from EPUK whether that’s more shampoo, plaiting bands and grooming kit ready for competitions or supplements and tonics to keep the horses on top form.
The warmer weather means my team has been using EPUK’s electrolytes to ensure the horses replace all the blood salts they lose through sweat as well as Cold as Ice, an innovative cooling gel which is perfect for popping on legs after work. We also use Relax cooling clay after jumping competitions and fast work with the eventers, and it works like a dream.
